Northern Brunswick County:  An Emerging Economic Force in Southeastern North Carolina

 

Strategically positioned west of Wilmington, northern Brunswick County has emerged as an economic leader in southeastern North Carolina.  Based on Census data for the period between July 1st, 2006 and July 1st, 2007, Brunswick County is ranked as the 17th fastest growing county in America.  With a 29.8% population growth between 2000 and 2006, Brunswick County is the 2nd fastest growing county in the state.  Northern Brunswick County is home to the towns of Leland, Belville, Navassa, Sandy Creek, the City of Northwest and the unincorporated areas of Winnabow, Town Creek and Maco.

 

Location, location, location!

Northern Brunswick County is the gateway to the beautiful Brunswick County Beaches and is the hub of freeway access to the rest of the region. The area is easily accessible from Raleigh (via I-40) and Myrtle Beach (via U.S. 17).  Thanks to the recent extension of the Interstate 140 bypass to Highway 421, visitors can quickly and easily reach the North Brunswick region from Interstate 40.  The next phase of the I-140 bypass will be through the center of Northern Brunswick County connecting Highway 74/76 west to Charlotte and US 17 South to Myrtle Beach.

Northern Brunswick County's municipal leaders share a common vision of making their communities friendly, attractive, safe places to live, work and play while retaining the region's small-town character.  The area townships are working towards common goals through the North Brunswick Economic Development Committee.  Small towns joining together to form big ideas.

 

Safe Communities

The municipalities in northern Brunswick County are committed to keeping the region's streets and communities safe.  The fruit of this commitment is evidenced by the fact that Leland, the largest municipality in northern Brunswick County, saw a 20% drop in violent crimes and a 19% drop in property crimes -- even as the town's population was experiencing explosive growth.

 

Growing Business Community

Northern Brunswick County's business community is an emerging leader in southeastern North Carolina.  From fine dining establishments to unique retail outlets to professional organizations such as law firms, more and more businesses are choosing to put down roots in the North Brunswick area. 

 

Leland Industrial Park

The Leland Industrial Park is home to numerous businesses as well as Brunswick Community College's Leland Center, Southport Boat Works, Victaulic and other national firms.

 

Schools

The North Brunswick area is home to North Brunswick High School, Leland Middle School, Lincoln Elementary and Bellville Elementary. The region is also home to Roger Bacon Academy, a charter school located near the City of Northwest on Highway 74/76, and the Brunswick Community College Leland Center.  Under construction, is the Town Creek Elementary School in Winnabow.

 

Naturally attractive

One of the many things which make the area an attractive place to live is the natural beauty.  From the Brunswick River to Town Creek, to the Green Swamp National Wilderness Preserve, the area is home to a number of scenic attractions.  North Brunswick is a great place to pause, play and picnic on your way to the beach.

 

In the middle of it all

Northern Brunswick County offers convenient access to a wide range of attractions.  The area is located west of historic downtown Wilmington and is a short drive from both the New Hanover County and Brunswick County beaches.  The historic U.S.S. North Carolina Battleship Memorial is just minutes away.  The area is home to the Magnolia Greens Golf Plantation, and the future 27 hole golf course in Brunswick Forest.  A short drive from the historic Orton Plantation, 30 minutes from Southport and an hour from Myrtle Beach, North Brunswick County is in the middle of everything.
